On the inside list the seven elements of art and the seven principles of art. (Quiz)

LINE:

Exercise #1 - Cut pieces of black construction paper into various widths and lengths and glue them onto four white 8” x 10” inch ground sheets to solve the following problems:

A. Using only straight horizontal and vertical lines create a design on the page that develops both the positive and negative areas.
B. Do the same thing using only diagonal lines.
C. Do the same thing using only curved lines.
D. Do the same using at least one horizontal, one vertical, one diagonal and one curved line.

Exercise #2 – Chair setup – Using newsprint and pencil draw objects without looking at the paper. Look only at the object. Try drawing several objects. Draw again using a continuous line.

Final Problem: Using the same subject do a rendering on white drawing paper with pencil that shows good composition and emphasis on line quality.

DRAWING: (77 Concept word Quiz)

Exercise #1: On newsprint do four quick sketches of the still life setup.

Exercise #2: On white drawing paper sketch one of your vantage points, focus on the positive and negative spaces, vertical and horizontal alignment and relative positions.

Final Problem: On good white drawing paper draw the still life setup. Use your perspective and value skills to create a realistic drawing.

VALUE: (Seven ways of thinking Quiz)

Exercise #1 – Draw the still life of simple objects using charcoal on white paper. Use charcoal to render a seven-step value scale in the corner of your paper.

Final Problem: Draw a self portrait on gray tone paper using white and black charcoal pencils. Using a black and white photograph of yourself grid it into ½ inch squares and grid your charcoal paper with 2” squares.

TEXTURE: (Field trip to OCAF Ceramics show)

Exercise #1: On a 6” x 6” x ½” clay tile experiment with various textures, practice adding clay using slip and crosshatching.

Final Problem: Build a texture box approximately 3” x 4” x 3”high.

SPACE: (Field trip to GMOA)

Discuss previous use of space in assignments including the use of overlapping, position, scale, and diminishing detail. Discuss experience of one and two-point perspective drawings in eighth grade.
Exercise #1: Set up three boxes. Using newsprint, pencil and ruler render them in correct two-point perspective.

Final Problem: Using white drawing paper, pencil, and ruler draw an imaginary city. This city must include at least eight blocks. Add details (minimum 100) such as; parks, billboards, cars, traffic lights, trees, people…..

Exercise #2: Using acrylic paint mix three pairs of complementary colors to create scales of at least seven distinct colors. Mix 77 greens and paint one inch squares.

Final Problem: Divide a half sheet of paper into three 4 ¼” x 9” rectangles repeat a simplified geometric design in each rectangle. Paint each one with a different color scheme; monochromatic, analogous and complimentary.

BANNER: Painting

Exercise #1: On 12” x 60” paper layout a design for a banner using colored pencils to indicate colors.
