<p>COVER DESIGN:  - Fold poster board in half.  Write your name in interesting letters.  Decorate the folder using pencils. You may use a representational, abstract, or non-representational drawing.<br />
On the inside list the seven elements of art and the seven principles of art. (Quiz)</p>

<p>LINE:</p>

<p> Exercise #1 - Cut pieces of black construction paper into various widths and lengths and glue them onto four white 8” x 10” inch ground sheets to solve the following problems:</p>

<p>A.	Using only straight horizontal and vertical lines create a design on the page that develops both the positive and negative areas.<br />
B.	Do the same thing using only diagonal lines.<br />
C.	Do the same thing using only curved lines.<br />
D.	Do the same using at least one horizontal, one vertical, one diagonal and one curved line.</p>

<p>Exercise #2 – Chair setup – Using newsprint and pencil draw objects without looking at the paper. Look only at the object.  Try drawing several objects.  Draw again using a continuous line.  </p>

<p>Final Problem:  Using the same subject do a rendering on white drawing paper with pencil that shows good composition and emphasis on line quality.</p>

<p>DRAWING:       (77 Concept word Quiz)</p>

<p>Exercise #1:  On newsprint do four quick sketches of the still life setup.</p>

<p>Exercise #2:  On white drawing paper sketch one of your vantage points, focus on the positive and negative spaces, vertical and horizontal alignment and relative positions.</p>

<p>Final Problem:  On good white drawing paper draw the still life setup.  Use your perspective and value skills to create a realistic drawing.</p>

<p>VALUE:  (Seven ways of thinking Quiz)</p>

<p>Exercise #1 – Draw the still life of simple objects using charcoal on white paper.  Use charcoal to render a seven-step value scale in the corner of your paper. <br />

Final Problem:  Draw a self portrait on gray tone paper using white and black charcoal pencils.  Using a black and white photograph of yourself grid it into ½  inch squares and grid your charcoal paper with 2” squares.</p>

<p>TEXTURE:   (Field trip to OCAF Ceramics show)</p>

<p>Exercise #1: On a 6” x 6” x ½” clay tile experiment with various textures, practice adding clay using slip and crosshatching.</p>

<p>Final Problem:  Build a texture box approximately 3” x 4” x 3”high.   </p>

<p>SPACE:              (Field trip to GMOA)</p>

<p>Discuss previous use of space in assignments including the use of overlapping, position, scale, and diminishing detail.  Discuss experience of one and two-point perspective drawings in eighth grade.<br />
Exercise #1:  Set up three boxes.  Using newsprint, pencil and ruler render them in correct two-point perspective.</p>

<p>Final Problem: Using white drawing paper, pencil, and ruler draw an imaginary city.  This city must include at least eight blocks.  Add details (minimum 100) such as; parks, billboards, cars, traffic lights, trees, people…..</p>

<p>COLOR: Composition         (Ism Quiz)</p>

<p>Discuss and look at examples of value, intensity, chroma, secondary and tertiary colors.</p>

<p>Exercise #1:  Paint a color wheel by mixing the three primary colors into twelve colors.</p>

<p>Exercise #2:  Using acrylic paint mix three pairs of complementary colors to create scales of at least seven distinct colors. Mix 77 greens and paint one inch squares.  </p>

<p>Final Problem:  Divide a half sheet of paper into three 4 ¼” x 9” rectangles repeat a simplified geometric design in each rectangle.  Paint each one with a different color scheme; monochromatic, analogous and complimentary.</p>

<p>BANNER: Painting</p>

<p>Exercise #1: On 12” x 60” paper layout a design for a banner using colored pencils to indicate colors.</p>

<p>Final Project:  On 12” x 60” canvas transfer your design and paint with acrylic paint.</p>
