The Athens Academy Drama Club was initiated in 2001 by student Lauren Schacher. The club mission is to give members opportunities to experience the performing arts, to increase awareness of the performing arts in our community, and to provide service support for events in our community. Our governing board consists of an elected club president, currently Libby Hansen, and volunteer Co-Chairs for each annual activity and event.
Annual Activities and Events: Attend Plays and Performances, Sponsor Workshops, volunteer as holiday characters for the Five Points Open House Holiday, organize Service Day Story Time Project, volunteer as storybook characters for the Oconee Library Family Fun Day and other Oconee Library events, contribute to the Georgia Shakespeare Festival's educational programs, run concession stands for various plays and talent shows, sponsor canned food drives for the Athens Area Food Bank, raise money for Project Pallam, organize Shakespeare's Birthday Celebration, make DVDs of Graduation ceremony and much more. The Drama Club is a club for all students- performer and non-performers alike.
