Grants and Scholarship Opportunities for Teachers

LOVEDAY FOUNDATION--$1000 INNOVATIVE GRANT FOR TEACHERS Download Application (please see Pat Cuneo for assistance)

The Board of Trustees of the Loveday Foundation in cooperation with the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) has voted to award three (3) separate $1,000 grants (Lower, Middle & High School) in the Fall of each year to a teacher or group of teachers in an association member school. These grants will be based on a creative, innovative, and original project to promote innovative activities to motivate students and to improve the teaching and learning process.

The procedures for applications and other details pertaining to this grant can be found on our web site at
http://www.gisa-schools.org/tch_grant1000.asp.

Teachers should be planning now to develop a creative project they wish to apply for by the deadline of October 17, 2008.

An innovative project is one that places the emphasis on the students and not the teachers. It should contain original and innovative ideas; should involve significant numbers of students; and it should have an impact which continues over time. An innovative project is not one which has as its main focus teacher advancement, travel, or a teacher’s course of study.

Announcing Athens Academy's Summer Curriculum Development Program

Collaboration • Innovation • Excellence

Download Application Form

Providing teachers with opportunities to enhance what and how they teach must be a top priority at any school seeking continuous enhancement of its academic program. When properly aligned with the school’s mission, operating principles, and long-range goals, such work encourages faculty ownership and sharing of ideas, demonstrates a commitment to thoughtful innovation, and results in meaningful, sustained discussions of the best approaches to teaching and learning. Summer is an ideal time for thorough curriculum development efforts within and across disciplines, grade levels, and divisions. Within the guidelines and priorities established by the Headmaster, groups of teachers are encouraged to identify opportunities for curriculum enhancement and develop detailed proposals for summer collaboration. A panel composed of the Academic Directors and Academic Dean will review proposals and select projects according to the extent to which they have the potential to enhance Athens Academy's academic program.

Guidelines:

The Headmaster, with recommendations from the Academic Directors, will establish the area(s) of emphasis each year. Proposals will be judged according to the following criteria:

Is the proposal consistent with the goals stated in Athens Academy’s mission, operating principles, and long range plan?

To what extent can the project strengthen the overall academic program?

To what extent does the proposal encourage and support faculty collaboration?

Recipients’ Responsibilities:

Each project must include a summary report/ analysis of its impact on teaching and learning at Athens Academy.

Recipients may be asked to share their findings with other teachers (through AA Teacher sessions, Faculty Development Days, division meetings, etc.) and to submit information to be included in school publications and press releases.

Other Considerations:

Proposals should be discussed with department chairs, curriculum leaders, etc. before they are submitted

Proposals should include detailed estimates of the time and materials required—the administrative panel will determine the specific portion of the available funds to be allocated to each approved project.

Funding may be applied to supplies, software, registrations, guest speakers, etc.

Twelve-month and non-returning faculty are not eligible to participate.
