The boy's varsity completed a 4-team match against North Oconee, Heritage, and Morgan Co. at Hard Labor Creek. Led by Joseph Gaines' even par, Blake Soni's and Tom McArthur's 38, and Colt Crymes' 41, the boys won the match.
The girls were not able to complete the match due to darkness, but got some excellent practice against Morgan Co.
The Athens Academy Golf Teams opened their seasons yesterday against Newton High School under difficult windy and cold conditions at the Athens Country Club. The weather prevented completion of the nine-hole match, so scores were tallied for 6 completed holes. The boys won their match with Blake Soni shooting even par, Joseph Gaines and Colt Crymes shooting 2 over, and Edward Gardner at 4 over par. This score defeated Newton's boy's team by 35 strokes.
The big excitement was the girl's team, led by Amanda Kittle and Dani Buchner, defeating Newton's #1 & #2 golfers by 3 strokes each. This is the first match ever won by the Athens Academy's Girl's Golf Team. Congratulations Girl's Golf Team!
