Upper School Announcements

Athens Academy's STAR Student, Senior Ruby Lai, and STAR Teacher, mathematics teacher Andy Simmonds, were selected as the Oconee System Winners at a breakfast honoring Oconee County STAR Students and Teachers on Thursday, February 21. Ruby and Mr. Simmonds will represent the Oconee System in the Region 4 competition. The winners of Region 4 will be announced at a banquet on Tuesday, March 18.

Congratulations to Ruby and Mr. Simmonds on their success in this competition.

The Sadie Hawkins Dance is scheduled for Saturday, March 1 from 8:30-11:30 p.m. Students are reminded to arrive prior to 9:30. The Student Council is excited to host this annual dance as we end the winter athletic seasons and begin to celebrate spring.

If a student is bringing a guest who does not currently attend Athens Academy, this form must be filled out and filed with the Upper School office no later than Friday, February 29 at 3:10.Download file

Upper School Director, J.P. Watson, and 7-12 Dean of Academics, Richard Thornton, have met with the rising 9-12th grades regarding Course of Study planning for the 2008-2009 school year. Please see the links below for the documents that were handed out in these meetings. In addition to these documents, the rising 10th-12th grades received unofficial transcripts listing the courses they have taken or are currently taking in grades 9-11.

Course recommendations for grades 9-11 will be mailed on Monday, February 25 along with grades and comments covering the first third of the second semester. If there are discrepancies between the family's request and the departmental recommendation, please be in touch with your child's advisor to schedule a conference on Tuesday, March 4.

Please return the Course of Study form to your child's advisor or homeroom teacher no later than Tuesday, March 4.
