Checking Your Webmail Is Easier With Gmail Manager

Do you wish you could be notified of new email messages without having to constantly login and check your Gmail? Well, with the help of a magical little Firefox extension called "Gmail Manager", your wish has come true!

Gmail Manager works by installing a status bar in the bottom right corner of your Firefox browser window. It will display the number of unread messages you have in your inbox, and scrolling over with your mouse will display a short snippet of the first 10 messages, letting you see the date, sender, subject and first line of your emails, all without opening any windows. Clicking on the status bar will open a tab and log in to your email.

There are several settings you can tweak by right-clicking on the status bar and choosing "Preferences," including sound notification and automatic login when you start Firefox. One of the great things about Gmail Manager is it can manage multiple Gmail accounts, so if you have a personal Gmail account as well as your Athens Academy webmail, you can check them all quickly and easily without opening multiple tabs (this feature is for Gmail accounts only.)

Installation is easy --- just visit https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1320 and click the "Install Now" button. Once it installs, it will prompt you to restart Firefox, and once it restarts there will now be an envelope icon in the bottom right corner. Click on this icon to add your Athens Academy webmail account and any other Gmail accounts you may have, set up the preferences as you like them and you're done!

Upcoming Changes in Athens Academy Printers

Upcoming Changes in Athens Academy Printers

In order to speed up and improve the printing services at Athens Academy, all printers are moving from the server MILLEDGE to the server GRADY. Our printers are currently installed on both servers, so we will never lose any printing services during this transition.  Please follow the steps outlined below at your earliest convenience but BEFORE Friday, February 1. At that time, we will uninstall the printers from MILLEDGE and printing will only work through GRADY.

The quickest and easiest way to do this is:

  1. Close out all windows and click on Start, then Printers and Faxes. Right-click and choose Delete for any printer that references the server MILLEDGE. Close this window.
  2. Double-click on My Computer.
  3. Type the following into the address bar and press return: \\grady
  4. In a moment, a list of all the printers available to you on GRADY will appear. To make this list more easily read, click on View then choose Details. The notes in the Comments field will help you choose the correct printer.
  5. Double-click the name of the printer which you would like to add. When a box appears, this printer is installed and ready to use. Please do this for all the printers you will need.
  6. To make a printer your default printer, close out all windows and click on Start, then Printers and Faxes. Right-click on the printer you want to choose as your default and select Set as Default Printer.

Please visit or contact the Help Desk if you have any questions regarding these instructions.
