One Hen by Katie Smith Milway
A young boy borrows a few coins from a collective fund in his African village to buy one hen with the hope of selling some of the eggs she lays in order to buy more  hens.  Based on the story of Kwabena Darko, the book tells the story of what evolved from that small loan including the success resulting from hard work.

Cartoonlike illustrations add to the fun of this 2009 Children’s Choice Award.
