Faculty and Staff Honored by GISA


Eight members of the Athens Academy faculty and staff were recognized by the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) for their outstanding work in independent schools. Elaine King, Patsy Leamon, Diana Maxwell, Wanda Moon, Peggy Reigle, Sharon Reinking, Marilyn Roemmich, and Bob Urich each received the Distinguished Service Award for having dedicated at least 25 years of service to independent schools.
They were honored at the GISA Annual Conference on Sunday, November 4, 2007, at The Lovett School in Atlanta. GISA is an association of private, independent, and parochial schools throughout the state sharing “a commitment to overall excellence and to the nurture and care of the physical, intellectual, social and moral development of all students.”
Bob Urich has been director of the Lower School at Athens Academy since 1988. Before that, he worked as elementary school principal and counselor at The American School in Tokyo, Japan for eight years. Elaine King is the director of the Lower School Media Center; she has been at Athens Academy since 1983. Also in the Lower School, second grade teacher Sharon Reinking has been at Athens Academy since 1986. Mrs. Reinking previously taught at Prince of Peace Lutheran School in Florida and St. Johns Lutheran School in Indiana. Preschool Aide Diana Maxwell has been teaching at Athens Academy since 1981.
In the Middle School, math teacher Peggy Reigle has been at Athens Academy since 1983. French and Latin teacher Patsy Leamon has been at Athens Academy since 1982.
Accounting Manager Wanda Moon has been with Athens Academy since 1983. Marilyn Roemmich has been at Athens Academy since 1982. She is currently the admissions administrative assistant and was previously an administrative assistant in the Middle School.
The entire school community congratulates Bob, Elaine, Sharon, Diana, Peggy, Patsy, Wanda, and Marilyn for their hard work and dedication to independent education and to Athens Academy.
