Students Inducted into National Honor Society

Following the annual Schacht Lecture at Athens Academy, 37 students were inducted into the National Honor Society based on scholarship, leadership, character, and service. This year’s lecture was delivered by Michael Thurmond, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Labor. Those students inducted this year were John Beach, Andrew Borda-Cabal, Kyle Crymes, Della Cummings, Maddie Dahl, Ella Douglas, Margaret DuBose, Bridgette Duffield, Katharine Follin, Margaret Gaby, Edward Gardner, Leah Gautreaux, Alec Greer, Margaret Heald, Katie Hilimire, Hara Jeon, Lauren Keane, Amanda Kittle, Anna Kochut, Sloane Kukanza, Gracie Liedberg, Jess Marrano, McKay Matthews, Joey Miller, Michael Moldoveanu, Malik Obeidin, Eric Perkerson, Emily Rea, Sean Scott, Blake Sinyard, Lauren Slocumbe, Ethan Trice, Kristen Turner, Mary Hadley Williams, Everett Young, Sophia Zhang, and Heather Zimmerman.

Students Selected for GMEA All-State Orchestra

Athens Academy musicians Daniel Masciadri, double bass, and Laura Keith, viola, were selected for the Georgia Music Educators Association’s 2007 All-State Orchestra. Eighth grader Daniel Masciadri placed third chair in the Middle School All-State Orchestra and junior Laura Keith is an alternate in the Grade 11-12 All-State Orchestra. The 2007 All-State Orchestra will be held in Savannah, Georgia, with rehearsals on March 1 and 2 and concerts scheduled on March 3.

David Hou Chosen as STAR Student

Senior David Hou was recognized as Athens Academy’s STAR student for 2007. David has chosen Richard Patterson as his STAR teacher. Mr. Patterson has taught David Honors and AP Biology. The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) Program recognizes outstanding students and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development.
