Will Douglas Chosen as DAR Good Citizen

Senior Will Douglas has been chosen by the faculty and his fellow seniors as Athens Academy’s DAR Good Citizen for the 2006-07 school year. Will was selected for his qualities of leadership, dependability, service, and patriotism.
The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Committee “recognizes and rewards high school seniors who possess good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. Each award is given on a merit basis including completion of a questionnaire, essay, scholastic record, and a letter of recommendation.”

Sparbots Advance to State Championships

The Middle School robotics team, the Sparbots, will compete in the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) State Championship at Georgia Tech on Saturday, January 20. The team qualified at the FLL Regional competition on Saturday, January 6, at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robbins. The theme for the regional competition was Nanotechnology. The Sparbots participated in a six-hour competition and were judged in four categories: teamwork; research; technical engineering/programming and structural design of an NXT robot; and completion of a three-round robotics obstacle course. Students Jimmy Robinson, Lucy Barsness, Austin Williams, Claire Grubb, Charles Lankau, and Alex Bernhardt did a great job in successfully completing all assignments. The top six teams out of sixteen competitors were selected to go to the FLL Georgia State Championship.
