The graphic art and paintings of illustrator Jack Davis will be on display in the Myers Gallery on the Athens Academy campus from October 23 through December 20. An opening reception will be held in Mr. Davis’ honor on Monday, October 23, 2006, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

Mr. Davis is a prolific cartoonist and illustrator, with work appearing various comic strips, Mad magazine, Time, and TV Guide. Some of his publishing and advertising clients have included America Online, DreamWorks, Paramount Pictures, Pepsi, Toyota, and the U.S. Postal Service. Mr. Davis received the National Cartoonist Society Advertising Award for 1980 and their Reuben Award in 2000. He received the National Cartoonist Society Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996 and was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2003.

Also on display on the Athens Academy campus is the work of Don Schenk of First Hand Crafts. Mr. Schenk’s display outlines the construction of a new craft school, “First Hand,” in Greensboro, Georgia, which will provide working studios and galleries for artisans, thereby creating future teachers for the arts and crafts in Greensboro. Mr. Schenk’s work will be on display in the Bertelsmann Gallery through December 20.

The public is invited to visit both Athens Academy galleries and the opening reception on October 23, 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Myers Gallery.
