New for Upper School Summer Reading--CHOICE BOOKS!

Would you read for fun in the summer? How about for ice cream...?

Here's what's new for Upper School Summer Reading. As usual, all Upper School students will read the required book or books assigned for their grade level or class, and should be prepared to write about or take a test on that book in the first couple of weeks of school. But this year, all Upper School students are also encouraged to choose at least one book from the titles recommended on the Choice Books list (available on the Media Center webpage. See Reading Lists, Upper School). You may choose any book that you like, regardless of your grade level.

If you become part of the “choice" group, you will be asked to speak briefly about the extra book you read in your English class in the first week or two of school. This will not be a formal report or a presentation, only a quick book talk in which you tell what the book was about, describe some of the characters, maybe read an interesting or exciting scene from the book, etc. (Tips on giving a successful book talk will be posted on the Media Center webpage—see Reading Lists, Upper School.) You might be given some extra credit points for your book talk (this is at your teacher’s discretion).

Then….you will be invited to an ice cream party! Students who read a choice book and talk about it in class will be invited to a party sponsored by the Media Center at which ice cream will be served and you will be celebrated. Please join us! And this summer, keep reading!
