Middle School Standardized Testing- Please make note!

All students in grades 5-8 complete Educational Records Bureau Writing Assessment (WrAP) and the CTP IV test each spring. (The CTP IV battery of tests is more commonly referred to as "ERBs".) Dates for this year's tests are listed below. It is important that students be well-rested and on time on testing days. A good night's sleep and a good breakfast are vital. Also, we ask that parents try to avoid making any routine medical or dental appointments during this time period. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Bitsy Quist or Lori Sanford.

Learning Styles

Each one of us have preferences in the way we learn. Understanding what our preferences are helps us to learn more effectively.

Middle School students complete the CAP-SOL Styles of Learning assessment. The CAP-SOL measures nine student preferences from high to low. Students work with their teachers and parents to understand what their preferences mean and how they can employ learning methods in the classroom and at home that promote individual success.

For more information please go to www.stylesoflearning.com or contact Mrs. Quist.

Student Goals

Learning how to set meaningful goals, working hard to reach them, and evaluating our efforts and progress along the way is an invaluable learning experience for someone of any age. As the new school year begins, middle school students will work with their teachers, peers, and parents to develop two goals for the year. One goal will focus on academics and one will focus on something more personal. Students are encouraged to get creative!

Parents can be a very meaningful part of this process in not only its inaugural phases, but also as students assess their progress throughout the year. Please take some time to talk to your child about what they might be interested in focusing on.
