Hands On Athens Mission
The mission of Hands on Athens is to create a coalition of organizations dedicated to assisting low-income Athens-Clarke County homeowners in historic neighborhoods to maintain, repair, and restore their properties as part of overall neighborhood revitalization.
What is Hands On Athens?
Hands On Athens is a sub-committee of the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) private, non-profit organization. Now in its tenth year, HOA plans to assist 12-16 low-income homeowners in three historic neighborhoods. The focus areas for Hands On Athens 2009 are the historic Hancock Corridor Neighborhood, the East Athens Neighborhood, and New Town.
Exterior renovations and repairs will take place on the project weekend, such as:
painting
siding and roof repair
gutter installation
door and window repair
and replacement
porch repair
landscaping
Please visit the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation website at http://achfonline.org/home.html for more information regarding this project.
Please mark your calendars. The dates for the 2009 Relay for Life have been set for May 8, 2009. The event is going to take place of the UGA Soccer Complex on S. Milledge Avenue.
Please contact Mr. Snead if you are interested in participating or helping out.
The Interact Club will continue to sponsor the preparation of dinner at the Athens Area Homeless Shelter every Friday evening during the second semester. No previous cooking skills are required. Please come and enjoy the fun while helping others. Meal preparation begins at 4:30 pm with the meal being served immediately afterward from 5:30-6:00 pm.
The shelter is located at 620 Barber Street in Athens.
Please contact Mrs. Harris or Mr. Snead if you have any questions.
