Pianist to Perform

Don't miss the final Guest Artist Concert of this year featuring Italian pianist Laura Nocchiero.
This concert is schedule for Thursday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Presentation Hall.
A reception will follow. Adult tickets are $10 and student tickets are $2.

March 1 US Orchestra Concert Rescheduled

The US Orchestra Concert scheduled for March 1 has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 29. This concert will feature our seniors and include favorite musical selections from movies, Broadway as well as some Rock Hits.

Congratulations Musicians!

Andy Kim (11th) and Joy Kim(8th) won positions in the GMEA 2010 All-State Orchestras.
Andy placed in the first violin section of the 11/12 orchestra and his sister Joy is playing in the viola section of the MS orchestra. These students competed against string orchestra students from across the entire state of Georgia. Andy and Joy will travel to Savannah for rehearsals and a concert March 4-6. Congratulations!

MS and US Musicians to Perform Holiday Concerts

MS and US band and orchestra students will perform holidays concerts in the community.
The US Orchestra will travel to Athens Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, December 8 and will perform holiday selections for the patients and staff at 11 a.m. MS Orchestra students will perform for ARMC on Wednesday, December 9. The 5/6 orchestra will play at 12:15 p.m. and the 7/8 orchestra will perform at 1:45 p.m. Both concerts will be held in the North Tower Atrium.
The Intermediate Band is performing holiday music for residents and staff at Iris Place and Lanier Gardens on Wednesday, December 9. Orchestra and band students are looking forward to spreading holiday spirit in our community.

Academy Student Wins Concerto Competition!

Middle School student Alois Cerbu (8th grade) won the Athens Youth Symphony Concerto Competition on November 16. He will perform the Allegro con brio from the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major with the Athens Youth Symphony on their Spring Concert set for May 16, 2010. Alois is the youngest winner in the history of this contest. He is a cellist at Athens Academy and performs in the AYS cello section.

The Duo Cardinale-Magnasco has played more than 300 concerts throughout Europe and the Americas (Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Austria, Germany, Cec Republic, USA , Brazil , Uruguay, Japan…). Their repertoire includes music from 1700 to 1900. The Monday, October 5 concert will include movements from the following works:

BEETHOVEN Sonata in F Major - Op. 24 “Spring”

N.PAGANINI Sonata in E minor - Op. 3 N. 12

R.SCHUMANN Sonata in A minor - Op.105

MS/US Orchestras to Perform for Grandparents/Special Friends Day

MS/US orchestra students will perform on October 2 for GP/SF Day. The concert will be held in the Presentation Hall from 8:45 am - 9:15 am. All students will need to check in with homeroom teachers and report immediately to the PH for tuning. Parents are invited to attend!

Lower School String Orchestra Kick Off

Recruiting for Lower School Orchestra classes in grades 2- 4 will begin on September 11, 2009. Students will have an opportunity to listen and view stringed instruments during the Friday assemblies.
