MS Play
A Toby Show
The middle school production of A Toby Show opens this month. This play by Aurand Harris is designed as a tribute to the theatrical productions of Vaudeville. Vaudeville shows were a combination of carnival and theatre. While watching a play, you might also see jugglers, animal acts, dancers, gymnasts, singers, dancers and more. A Toby Show is also a tribute to the stock character of Toby - a well-loved character of the vaudeville stage. A mischievous, clever, and funny character with signature red hair and overalls, Toby was loved by audiences of all ages and backgrounds. He was the early twentieth century equivalent to commedia's Arlecchino. Complete with entre acts, this play is a great tribute to the theatrical stylings of yesteryear.
Show dates are February 11- 13, 2010. All shows are in the Athens Academy Presentation Hall. Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Canned food donations will be accepted at the door.
