As we wind down the last month of school for 2009-2010, our thoughts drift to the coming school year. With that in mind, we wanted to share with you some updates and changes that will be taking place in our Standardized Dress Program for next year.
Enclosed along with this letter is the Dress Code as it will appear in the Policies and Directory for 2010-2011. While this mentions some of the adjustments in offerings, like the addition of black pants and capris, along with the addition of light blue for the long-sleeve polos, it doesn’t highlight some of the other changes that Sunshine has made.
Sunshine has been working for the past year to develop new fabrics that would address the issues of comfort and durability. You should receive three emails directly from Sunshine that outline the changes they have made to address issues that we have brought to their attention. As the emails arrive, we will post them to the Standardized Dress Blog on the Athens Academy website so that all will have access to this information. If you don’t receive the emails, please update your account with Sunshine.

Thank you for the tremendous feedback this year through individual meetings, conversations and survey answers. We appreciate all of the input as the change to Standardized Dress at Athens Academy has occurred. Spending over sixteen months from the time the Board of Trustees adopted the policy to the first day of school in August, 2009, and working with faculty, parents, students and Sunshine School Fashions to pull off a successful first year was time well spent. The realities of the change have led to even more specific feedback and responses from both Sunshine and Athens Academy. Read more
On Wednesday, January 28, 2009, a representative from Sunshine School Fashions worked with the Middle School and Lower School to present some of the options that will be available in Athens Academy’s Standardized Dress Program for 2009-2010. Sharon West introduced students from Pre-first through 7th grade as they showed off the styles and colors of clothing that we will see on all first through eighth graders next school year. Please review the pictures and video of the fashion show or Q&A session for a visual overview of the evening. Additionally, please review the Standardized Dress Items for Inclusion and Guidelines document for more details and information.
Sunshine School Fashions representatives will be in Athens May 12-14, 2009 to hold an on-location sale in the Spartan Center from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. each day. As you will hear in the video, they recommend that all students be sized at this time to avoid challenges with appropriate fit. Once sized, families will be able to purchase, on-site, most or all of the clothing items for the 2009-2010 school year or choose to order at a later date through their online portal or by using their toll-free number. As the details are finalized for all the items to be included, more information will be forthcoming from Sunshine regarding pricing.
If you have questions, please be in touch with Mr. Urich, Mrs. Klein or Mr. Watson. We hope you enjoy the video and pictures of what was a memorable night at Athens Academy.
